Readings at Parkside: Lynne TILLMAN: THRILLED TO DEATH
From award-winning novelist and cultural critic Lynne Tillman, Thrilled to Death is a collection of selected stories across the career of America’s most audacious writer —
Among the vanguard of American literary writers, Lynne Tillman’s work has defied categorization throughout her legendary career—a singular body of work that both redefined and reimagined the short story form entirely.
Curated by the author, Thrilled to Death is the definitive entry point for both established fans and new readers alike. These selected stories collect a bold, playful, and eclectic ensemble of Tillman’s Borgesian fictions that span decades and traverse themes of sex, death, memory, and anxiety.
With argumentative wit, Tillman’s meditations and reflections on art, politics, and culture are animated by deliciously paradoxical characters who desire and fret in turn, and who are imbued with searing intelligence and dolorous ambivalence. Describing Tillman’s writing, Colm Tóibín says: “Her style has both tone and undertone; it attempts to register the impossibility of saying very much, but it insists on the right to say a little. So what is essential is the voice itself, its ways of knowing and unknowing.”

SLOTH Presents MIRROR MIRROR Live at The Parkside Lounge
APRIL 18 2025
Doors at 6PM / Show at 7PM
TICKETS $12
What do you see when you catch your reflection — truth or illusion? A fleeting glance can reveal desire, envy, admiration, or something altogether unexpected. Do you see yourself, or someone you long to be? Or has another’s reflection revealed something about you? Sometimes, a reflection doesn’t just show us who we are but who we are becoming. Tell us a story about the mirrors that have startled, seduced, or shaped you.
Doors open at 6:00 and stories begin around 7:00pm. Sharers and listeners are all welcome! No story is required to come and enjoy the scene. To sustain our work, there is a $12 entry fee, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
On the fence about telling a story? We're here to help you develop it for primetime! Reach out to one of our gracious and beautiful hosts to brainstorm and refine. We'd love to get a glimpse of your inner worlds.
What are SLOTH events?
The SLOTH is our queer gathering for friends to share stories inspired by our selected themes. Come to listen or come to tell. We welcome authentic and true(ish) tales, comedy, poetry, music, and any creative form you can put into a compelling 5-minute share.

Readings at Parkside: Cedar Sigo
Readings at Parkside:
Cedar Sigo
The Parkside Lounge
Sunday, April 27th, 4pm
Cedar Sigo's latest poetry collection, Siren of Atlantis, is an introspective odyssey of remarkable poetic and personal resonance.
Here are poems that speak to Sigo's profound experience of learning to write again after suffering a stroke in 2022. In creating this work, the author retraces poetic sources and reexamines style and tone, using a variety of compositional techniques to renegotiate what is at stake in the work. There is a joy in this collection, as Sigo allows us to bear witness to the rediscovery of language, imparting the work with a new and dramatic clarity, for the poet and ultimately for the reader as well.
Cedar Sigo is a poet and member of the Suquamish Nation. He studied at The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Naropa Institute. He is the author of endless books and pamphlets of poetry, including All This Time (Wave Books, 2021), Stranger in Town (City Lights, 2010), Expensive Magic (House Press, 2008), two editions of Selected Writings (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2003 and 2005) and most recently Siren of Atlantis (Wave Books, 2025). In 2022 he received a grants to artist’s award from The Foundation for Contemporary Arts. He has taught all over the country including The University of Washington, Bard College, Washington University, Naropa University and The Institute of American Indian Arts. He lives in Lofall, Washington.

As the ghosts of the past and the present begin to intertwine, Alex must come to terms with how he dealt with his mental illness then - and how he must handle it now. The Hometown Tour is a one-act explosion of punk energy told by a tight cast of 4 actor-musicians.

Ruth Mascelli pairs slinking, synth-fuelled transcendence with crooning, existential balladry. Softening the edges of the industrial textures he provides as one quarter of the notorious synth punk band Special Interest, Mascelli’s solo performances present a carefully constructed sequence of electronic mood pieces and torch songs infused throughout with a desolate cosmic romanticism.
Justin Allen works in music and sound, performance, visual art, and writing. He has been commissioned by The Chocolate Factory Theater, The Shed, and ISSUE Project Room and received support from Franklin Furnace, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and the Jerome Foundation. He received his BA in literary studies from Eugene Lang College at The New School and his MFA in sculpture from Yale School of Art. In 2024, he released his first book, Language Arts, published by Wendy’s Subway. Photo by S*an D. Henry-Smith.
Victoria Keddie is a multidisciplinary artist focused on sound, video, installation, and performance, revealing hidden narratives in everyday artifacts and spaces. She explores themes of acoustic phenomena and language. Formerly Co-director of E.S.P. TV, Keddie has showcased her work internationally. Her video works are distributed by Lightcone (FR) and The Filmmakers Co-op (US), while her sound work is released through Raster Media (DE), Chaikin Records (US), and Fridman Gallery (NYC/US). Nath Ann Carrera Presents A Showgirl Turned Criminal Live at The Parkside Lounge
March 1, 2025
Doors at 6:30pm / Show at 7pm
Early Bird $15 / Advance $18 / Door $25
Nath Ann returns to the Parkside Lounge with a new evening of original songwriting, intriguing obscurities, and riveting storytelling!
Immerse yourself in an enthralling musical journey through…
Cult-Laden Anti-Patriarchal Murder Balladry! Gender-Variant Occultism! San Francisco Sleaze! Historic And Contemporary Anti-Assimilationist Queer Depravity! Altars Of The Flesh! Consensual A-Moralism! The Still Liberating Gaze Of A Showgirl Turned Criminal! And BEYOND!
With a crooning voice that has been second-hand smoking since the womb and a consistently engaging narrative arc, enjoy an evening of original transportive story songs and compelling histories, reminiscent of the thematic style of their Southern Gothic series of the songwriting of Bobbie Gentry and early extreme Dolly Parton.
Described as "heavenly" (New York Times) and "wonderful, striking, with essayistic songs about female revenge and politics" (Hilton Als- The Paris Review), Nath Ann Carrera has had solo shows at Joe's Pub and Wild Project (I Don't Want To Throw Rice, I Want To Throw Rocks: The Early Southern Gothicism Of Dolly Parton), The Parkside Lounge (Where Broken Young Bodies Are Lying: The Songs Of Bobbie Gentry), La MaMa (Death To The Patriarchal Rape Heads), sings as WITCH CAMP with Amber Martin, performs with Justin Vivian Bond, opened for Martha Wainwright at City Winery, and has also sung at Le Poisson Rouge, SFMOMA, MoMA PS1, Lincoln Center, and The Kennedy Center.
“Hauntingly beautiful”
(Broadway World)
“Nath Ann Carrera started the night off with a handful of songs that inhabited a unique place between standard country western ballads and bizarre gay-themed narratives. It was clear from (their) opening monologue that this was a performer who was about more than just the music. Carrera… was at (their) best when spinning original yarns that were as sharp and strange as (their) on-stage persona.”
(Brooklyn Vegan)
“This was the best show I’ve seen in NYC in years.”- Alexander Chee (on ‘The Early Southern Gothicism Of Dolly Parton’)
