SHABOOM & ART OMI PRESENT: The Movies of Samara Halperin

SHABOOM & ART OMI Presents The Movies of Samara Halperin Live at The Parkside Lounge

1/23/2025

Doors at 7:30pm / Show at 8pm

E

arly Bird $5  / Advance $10 / Door $12

Join the truly glorious creatures of SHABOOM—artists Silky Shoemaker, Paul Soileau, and Lex Vaughn—for a special one-night-only screening with longtime collaborator Samara Halperin. Laugh, cry, and scream with Samara Halperin’s short films and videos, many in stop-motion animation. Find true love with Todd the TONKA cowboy on his hitchhiking adventures through the Texas desert. Watch hotdogs get dressed and undressed in one another's arms. Witness SHABOOM running afoul of all codes of decency and decorum!

This evening is presented on the occasion of SHABOOM's first institutional solo show "Presumed Ignorant" at Art Omi in the Hudson Valley, on view through January 26, 2025. Embracing slapstick, SHABOOM presents scenes that teeter on the edge of disaster and teem with slips, flops, and the cheapest of pleasures.

Tammy Faymous & The Bakker Boys

Tammy Faymous & The Bakker Boys Live at The Parkside Lounge

"Turns out that Tammy is messy, but in a deeply relatable way. More a rocker with pop tendencies than a provocateuse, her cabaret act plays as a way of finding herself in songs as she goes along. Instead of a polished act, Tammy is an act in progress, and all heart. Most surprisingly, she can sing! Some drag acts rely on lip-synching (no shame in that game), but Tammy is a singer first, and a rocker in need of a stylist (purposefully so) second." - Matthew Rettenmund, Boy Culture

Nath Ann Carrera: The Early Southern Gothicism Of Dolly Parton

NATH ANN CARRERA: THE EARLY SOUTHERN GOTHICISM OF DOLLY PARTON

SUNDAY FEB 2nd 2025

doors 6:30 show 7pm

$15 early bird / $18 advanced / $25 at the door

Nath Ann Carrera sings an evening of early extreme sensationalistic story songs written by Dolly Parton from 1967-1971, when most of her original songs were cautionary tales about why you shouldn't trust men, have children, or get married, in any context whatsoever.

Class-Conscious Incest! Teen Delinquent Anti-Authoritarian Murder! Mental Institution Imprisonment! Speed-Addicted Swingers! Anti-Marriage Retaliation! Stillborn Suicide! Children Bursting Into Flames While Their Parents Tell Dirty Jokes! And BEYOND!

With a voice that has been second-hand smoking since the womb and a steadily compelling storytelling arc, you will walk away with a new conception of Dolly Parton's songwriting and career.

"This was the best show I've seen in NYC in years." - Alexander Chee

"Nath Ann Carrera spins a soul-fortifying web of tales confirming what makes The Early Southern Gothicism Of Dolly Parton and its cautionary tales both undeniably queer and anthems for living otherwise the death-worlds of hetero-reproductive patriarchy." - Jill H. Casid

Described as "heavenly" (New York Times) and "wonderful, striking, with essayistic songs about female revenge and politics" (Hilton Als- The Paris Review), Nath Ann Carrera has had solo shows at Joe's Pub and Wild Project (I Don't Want To Throw Rice, I Want To Throw Rocks: The Early Southern Gothicism Of Dolly Parton), La MaMa (Death To The Patriarchal Rape Heads), sings as WITCH CAMP with Amber Martin, performs with Justin Vivian Bond, opened for Martha Wainwright at City Winery, and has sung at P.S. 122, The Kitchen, Abrons Arts Center, Le Poisson Rouge, SFMOMA, MoMA PS1, Lincoln Center, and The Kennedy Center.

YONAH x Maddie Pizzarelli x Sofia Garcia live at The Parkside Lounge (Presented by Smooch O´Clock)

Smooch O´Clock, an installation celebration of the indie singer-songwriters who love to love, sound so so good doing it, and that want you to have a beautiful silly time. YONAH, Maddie Pizzarelli, & Sofia Garcia will take the stage at The Parkside Lounge for its first iteration with you there<3 Smooch!:

Yonah Nissim Taragin. 21 years. I love my family. Avocado. Guitars. Mountains. I am scared of being alone. Cockroaches. Anger with no resolve. Failure. I am hungry for meaning. I treasure you. Thank you.

Maddie Pizzarelli is a New York City-based singer/songwriter and guitarist. Maddie Pizzarelli is also a diner fixture, alternate guitar tuning advocate, bodacious cowboy, prosciutto consumer, obsessive playlister, snarky diarist, 2007’s “Most Enthusiastic at Day Camp” winner, and interminable list maker. Inspired by the lyrical depth of Joni Mitchell, the rhythmic vitality of Mumford & Sons, and the brazen emotionality of Alanis Morissette, her songs explore coming of age, relationships, and feminine angst through her introspective lyrics and muscular acoustic guitar playing.

Sofia Garcia is a NYC based Colombian-American Singer-Songwriter, taking her indie-folk songs of love, life, and learning to you. She is getting ready to release her first single off of her debut EP, but only you get to know that because you’re reading this bio! More than anything she hopes you come to the show a stranger and that you leave a friend <3 lovU!

SLOTH: Live Queer Storytelling

When threatened, they will fight, and it will be cute. Tell us your story about overcoming an unexpected circumstance. Have you ever confronted reality head-on? How did you find a way through it all? Or did you manage to have a really *really* good time despite life throwing hammers at you? Sharers and listeners are all welcome! No story is required to come and enjoy the scene. To sustain our work and venue, there is a $12 entry fee, but we will turn no one away for a lack of funds.
On the fence about telling a story? We're here to help you develop it for primetime! Reach out to one of our gracious and beautiful hosts to brainstorm and refine. We'd love to get a glimpse of your inner worlds.

- Tyler & Mike
